Commercial Projects
Angas Street Specialists Rooms
With a six week time frame, Lulu Design transformed an empty shell into functioning consulting rooms for an Adelaide surgeon. We produced the fitout design and detail, working closely with the builder to deliver on time. Our work involved developing concept plans to working drawings, lighting specifications and electrical layouts, custom-made joinery design including solid New Guinean walnut desks, selection of furniture and imported wallcoverings, through to the unique custom designed carpet throughout. A black high gloss archway defines and separates the reception from the consulting rooms. Artwork was commissioned to tie in with the contemporary palette.
Blackwood Dental
Working within an old bungalow house, the brief was to create a functional layout accommodating a large reception counter for 3 staff, plenty of room for waiting chairs, new consulting surgery and re-fit of existing spaces. Allowing for good flow of natural light through the interior was paramount. To create a tranquil atmosphere, Lulu Design used simple clean lines and finishes for custom made joinery. Tones of bleached timber, bones and white set the theme with turquoise colour accents. Sweeping contrast arcs in the flooring materials have created movement and flow through the spaces. Whilst custom made glass screens were used to transfer light.
Whitham Media
The brief was to create a smart, contemporary revamp for this well known media company. The existing exterior paint colours had a residential feel. Lulu Design have tied the old stone walls in with a fresh warm grey to charcoal colour scheme that accentuates the character of the building. Although still in good condition, the interior carpet and finishes were looking too Victorian and didn’t complement the progressive style of the business. Lulu Design custom designed the carpet throughout and has create a central runner effect with the use of carpet tiles.
Hawthorn Surgery
Working within a small semi-detached maisonette, walls were demolished to create a large reception/waiting area. A long passageway converted into a glamorous patient powder room one end and a functional sterilizing lab the other. Clever use of flooring materials and glass screens visually separate a treatment chair from the Orthodontists patient consulting area. The palette includes driftwood coloured timber flooring and modular carpet. White highlights create contrast within the spaces. All furniture and finishes were selected by Lulu Design.
Westlakes Dental
When Lulu Design was asked to consult for this project, the dental surgery had not seen renovation for over 25 years. As the surgery is directly on the lake, Louise wanted to make the watery location the feature. Hence her selection of jetty timber look vinyl floors, custom designed water ripple carpets and custom joinery in blues and silvers. The brief required a separate consulting room near reception for discussing treatment plans with patients, a new reception counter to accommodate 3 staff, new finishes throughout, selection of new light fittings, loose furniture and artwork.
Hyatt Managers Suite
Re-vamping pubs and hotels is a continuous process for their owners. Knowledge of commercial finishes and wear ratings is essential. Louise Kelly has worked on large and small refurbishment projects for the former Hyatt Hotel [now known as The Intercontinental, North Terrace] for close to 20 years. Recent work included fitting out the General Managers suite. The brief was to create a warm, relaxed family home within this top class hotel. The clients collection of Asian art and special furniture pieces were pivotal in selecting complimentary furniture, soft furnishings and custom lighting. Work also included the design of a private kitchen for the family.
Edinburgh Hotel
‘The Ed’ at Mitcham, required a complete renovation of the existing bathrooms. The brief was to provide an up to date look yet not make the rooms feel too stark and cold. We designed a smart vanity bench using an oval shaped Philippe Starck basins and individual mirrors set against crushed foil backed glass tiles. Pendant light fittings and wall vinyl add the finishing touches, creating a “new meets old” feel for this historic hotel. Other work included design of the over-scaled tartan and scattered thistle custom-made carpet.
